How much arch width expansion can ClearCorrect aligners provide?
This very much depends on the patient and what type of expansion has already been done (rapid vs. slow expansion and considering if the expansion has been maintained for any length of time). The amount of expansion depends on many patient-related factors, such as the original buccal-lingual tip of the teeth, the amount of alveolar bone around the teeth, the gingival biotype, age of the patient, recession, type of crossbite (if any) and occlusion.
Generally, about 3-4mm of expansion measured at the canines is about the limit of what can be done with aligners. This is a generalization only and is dependent on the patient variables listed above, this amount may be more or less. Additionally, the extended trimline and aligner material allow more cross-arch stability than many competitive devices and is able to retain expansion adequately.
Which classes of occlusion can be treated with ClearCorrect?
All classes of occlusion can potentially be improved with clear aligner therapy, although a perfect outcome can never be guaranteed. You can determine whether clear aligner therapy is recommended for a patient by evaluating the overall treatment goal, the types of movements involved, and the condition of the existing dentition.
Aligner Material
What are ClearCorrect Aligners made of?
ClearCorrect aligners are made of our proprietary ClearQuartz tri-layer material, which provides greater orthodontic control by combining two layers of resilient polymers with an elastomeric inner layer, resulting in gentle, consistent application of force.
While the elastomeric inner layer provides sustained gentle force, ClearQuartz's outer layers provide remarkable durability, demonstrated to be four times more tear resistance than single-layer polymers.*

How effective is ClearQuartz aligner material compared to the competition?
Due to the unique properties of ClearQuartz*, ClearCorrect aligners retain 10x more of their initial force than competitors. This increased consistency of force can lead to more efficient tooth movements. Because the material holds its shape well throughout treatment time**, ClearQuartz supports greater predictability of tooth movement. Additionally, ClearQuartz’s outer layers provide remarkable durability, demonstrating four times more tear resistance than single-layer polymers.***
* ClearQuartz is not currently available in China.
**Data on file. Over 72 hours.
***Data on file vs 0.30 single layer material.
Do ClearCorrect aligners contain BPA or phthalates?
No. Our aligners are made without BPA or phthalates and have been extensively tested for biocompatibility.
Are retainers or engager templates made out of ClearQuartz*?
No. Retainers and Engager Templates will be made from different single layer materials.
*ClearQuartz is not currently available in China.
Aligner Trimline
What are the benefits of ClearCorrect's high and flat trimline compared to a scalloped trimline?
With a smooth, unscalloped trimline that extends beyond the gingival margin, the ClearCorrect high and flat trimline, has been shown to optimize force transmission for more accurate tooth movement and enhanced root control*. It's also proven to be 2.5 times more retentive than scalloped aligners, which reduces the need for retentive engagers**.

**Cowley, D. The effect of gingival-margin design on the retention of thermoformed aligners. J Clin Orthod. 2012 Nov;46(11):697-702
Can I reduce the height of the aligner trimline?
Yes, in case of soft tissue considerations and/or excessive retention of the aligner. The trimline remains flat, but the height may be decreased.
How do I select a different aligner trimline than the default?
You can request the low and flat trimline in the “Additional Information” section of the prescription form in the Doctor Portal or in ClearPilot in the Comments Panel.
Is it possible to request a low and flat trimline in the anterior and a high and flat trimline in the posterior?
No, the trimline for the aligner must be the same height throughout.
Why is ClearCorrect's default trimline the high and flat trimline design?
ClearCorrect utilizes a high and flat trimline design, which involves a straight cut placed 1-2mm above the gingival zenith, extending across the aligner's entire border. This design choice covers a small portion of the free gingiva. The high trim line in conjunction with the aligner material (ClearQuartz) allows for better distribution of forces on the tooth crown.* As a result, it contributes to more predictable clinical outcomes. Additionally, this type of trimline offers enhanced aligner retention, reducing the need for the placement of engagers.**

When is a high and flat trimline indicated?
A high and flat trimline is recommended in several scenarios. It is suitable for patients with regular or short crowns, those who exhibit mild bruxism or clenching, and cases involving challenging movements such as torque, translation, or root movements. It is also indicated for growing patients or cases where the terminal molars have not fully erupted. If the treatment plan involves the use of intermaxillary elastics (such as Class II or Class III elastics) or requires increased aligner retention and performance, a high and flat trimline is ideal. It can also offer improved stability for patients with multiple missing teeth.
When is a low and flat trimline indicated?
A low and flat trimline is appropriate in specific circumstances. It is recommended when the retentiveness of the aligner needs to be reduced, which may occur in cases of severe crowding or narrow arches. It can also enhance patient comfort, especially when dealing with factors such as a low frenum, gingival sensitivity, recession, abfraction, black triangles, teeth pointing in opposing directions, aligning underneath bridges or around implants, bulbous teeth, and partial edentulism (multiple missing teeth).
Can I select different trimline heights for different steps of treatment?
This is a possibility, but only if you submit a revision.
Can I request a different trimline height for an ongoing case?
Yes, please make sure to submit a revision for this request.
Can I visualize the trimline in ClearPilot?
Trimline visualization will be available with the ClearPilot 7.0 release in October 2023.
What trimline height is applied to retainers?
Trimline height of retainers will be the same as the last height selected for the aligners for the case.
Can I adjust the trimline height of engager templates?
No, trimline height for engager templates is not customizable and is trimmed 1 mm below the gingival zenith.
Can I request a different trimline height for the buccal and/or palatal/lingual sides?
No, the trimline height selected will be applied throughout.
