Using the treatment setup
Reviewing and approving the treatment setup for your patient is one of the key factors in planning treatment. This is where you get to map out the treatment outcomes desired by you and your patient.
ClearCorrect's role is to help you create the treatment setup you want for your patient. We can offer recommendations for the course of treatment, but those recommendations are not absolute. It's up to you to make any necessary changes to customize an ideal treatment plan for each individual patient.
A treatment setup is sent to you after you submit a case and patient records to ClearCorrect. Once we receive your records, it usually takes a few days to create one. When it's ready, you'll be sent an email to let you know, and you'll be able to view it and approve it on ClearComm.
After treatment is completed and the case is closed, we will archive the treatment setup and we will keep it for a period of up to two years.

Viewing & approving the treatment setup
A treatment setup contains 3D models for each step of the treatment, representing the tooth movements that you prescribe. When you get your treatment setup, you'll see how many steps are planned. If you approve the setup, these models will be printed and used to manufacture the aligners.
Treatment setups appear in the action needed section of the case list on dr.clearcorrect.com when they’re ready for your review.
Click a case on the list to visit its case page. You’ll find the treatment setup near the top. Click the treatment setup icon and your setup will open in a web browser window. The web-based setups should work in current versions of Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari, and Firefox for Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android.
A link to a shareable version, which hides the patient's first name and evaluation button is also available for setups. Click "Share link" and copy the URL that is displayed. This can be pasted into an email or text message for sharing with patients or colleagues.
At the top of the setup, you’ll find the patient’s name, the treating physician, the case number, the date that the setup was created, and the version number of the setup.
At the bottom left of the setup, you’ll see a timeline representing every step of the case. The starting position of the teeth is shown at the left. Steps with checkup appointments are numbered on the timeline, and the final position of the teeth is represented on the right as a retainer.
To navigate between steps, you can drag the slider, click on a step, click the Previous and Next arrows, or click Play to animate the treatment from beginning to end. You can click Previous at the beginning or Next at the end of treatment to quickly toggle between views before and after treatment.
Shortcuts are available for the most common views: Upper occlusal, Lower occlusal, Right, Front, and Left. You can also rotate the model to view the teeth from any angle by clicking and dragging.
Engagers are shown in blue when they are first placed, and in gray on subsequent steps. IPR is represented by red cones, while Compliance Checkpoints are shown in green.
Evaluating the treatment setup
You’ll want to start by confirming the software has accurately related the models and bite registration. Put the timeline of the treatment setup in the starting position and tilt the model up to check for gaps between the upper and lower incisors—comparing this view to the patient’s photographs and records often indicates an improper bite registration for the model.
From the front, check the midline relationship. Use the right and left views to verify the overjet, overbite, canine, and molar relationships. Use the occlusal views to confirm that the impressions or intraoral scans accurately captured the shape of the teeth.
If you’re satisfied with the starting model, carefully review the subsequent steps to verify that the planned tooth movements are safe and effective. Verify that any recommended IPR and engagers are sufficient to achieve your goals.
Bear in mind that these models really just represent the shape of the aligners that you will be given—no one can guarantee what the teeth will do in real life. ClearCorrect’s technicians will attempt to follow your instructions as closely as possible. As the prescribing doctor, you are ultimately responsible for your patient’s orthodontic care.

When you evaluate a treatment setup, you have four options:
- Approve the setup and start the case
- Decline the setup and ask for changes
- Decline the setup and submit new impressions or scans
- Decline the setup and cancel the case
If everything looks good, click Approve. That's when you'll be presented with a choice between Flex or Unlimited pricing options:
Any case can be treated as Flex or Unlimited, regardless of duration. You'll see the exact duration and cost of both options. If you're not sure which one to choose, check out this article for some points to consider.
Disapproving the treatment setup
If the model looks inaccurate, you want to move the teeth differently, or you want to cancel the case, click DISAPPROVE and let us know what you want to do. Our technicians will do their best to make any changes you request and upload a new version for your approval within a few days.
When disapproving a treatment setup, providing your technician with the following information will give them a clear picture of the problem and what you want changed, resulting in a quick turnaround on your setup.
- Tell your technician what you don't like about the setup.
- Tell your technician what angle you are viewing the setup from.
You will receive an email notification once your new treatment setup is ready to be viewed, either right away, at the end of the day, or at the end of the week, depending on how often you've asked to receive notifications.
Notes from your Technician
You may receive notes from your technician regarding your treatment setup. These notes can be about the case type, your prescription or the quality of your impressions. These notes or comments do not always require a response.
The other type of note you might receive from your technician is usually a question on your prescription or materials before they can provide your treatment setup. In this situation, you will see the action item below, with the technician's notes and a field for you to reply.
You may also receive emails (daily summary emails) notifying you that there is a note from your technician. You can click on the case in the email and it will ask you to log in to the doctor's portal where you will see the case and notes from the technician to reply.
The note from your technician may sometimes be about your impressions. If you would like to review your original impression scans, you can scroll down from the notification box and in the History section of the case, where you will see a title "Upper impression, lower impression received" along with the date it was receieved and an icon of the impression.
Each of the icons in the history can be clicked on, opened and viewed. (This is also how you can access your invoice, photos and the treatment prescription for the case.)
IPR, engagers and the treatment setup

It's up to you to make any necessary changes to customize an ideal treatment plan for each individual patient.
We can adjust all preferences related to IPR (which teeth, when and how, no IPR, expansion, limited IPR, limited expansion, etc.) or engagers based on your specifications.
