The Treatment Setup
Every ClearCorrect case includes a treatment setup, a 3D representation of the patient’s teeth before, during, and after treatment. It includes every step, movement, and recommended procedure over the course of the case. Once you approve the setup, we will use the corresponding data to manufacture the aligners.
Reviewing and approving the treatment setup for your patient is one of the key aspects of planning treatment. This is where you get to map out the treatment goals you and your patient are aiming for.
To learn more about Treatment Setup please refer to the following article:

Direct Collision/Space Edits
- IPR (interproximal reduction) is a procedure where, by reducing the proximal surfaces of the teeth, a very small amount of space between the teeth is created to allow the teeth to move during treatment. IPR is often recommended when treating patients with clear aligners.
- Edits can be made by adjusting the amount of space measured in millimeters between the teeth by clicking on the associated flag.
- The collision/spacing flags between the teeth are color coded: green for spaces, red for collisions, and white for no contact/null.
Using 3D Controls: Direct IPR Edits
- Select Dr. Edits at the top or beside the treatment timeline located at the bottom.
- The "Show collision labels" in configuration menu must be toggled on to make changes.

Making Changes to Edits Made Using ClearPilot 3D Controls
There are six different ways to make changes to edits made using 3D Controls.
- The single-arrow icon on the Individual Tooth Movement toolbar allows users to undo movements and reset the image to the technician’s proposed position.
- The double-arrow icon on the Individual Tooth Movement toolbar allows users to reset a tooth to its position before treatment.
- The Trash icon on the Features toolbar allows users to delete any feature shown on the image. Users select a feature (engager, cutout, or bite ramp) by double-clicking on it and then click on the trash icon to remove the feature from the image.
- The Undo Edits button appears when DR EDITS mode is active. It allows users to undo their most recent edit.
- The Repeat Edits button appears when DR EDITS mode is active. It allows users to repeat their most recent edit.
- The Remove All Edits button appears when DR EDITS mode is active. It allows you to remove all edits made using the 3D Controls. A pop-up message will appear asking users to confirm the removal of all edits or cancel the action. Users have the opportunity to review the selections in the popup window and deselect any categories of edits they want to keep. To finalize the removal of all edits, users will click the Remove button.
Tips for Using 3D Controls
Tip 1: Use 3D Controls with other ClearPilot tools.
- The Millimeter Grid tool helps clinicians evaluate tooth placement and engager placement.
- When using the Occlusal Heat Map tool, adjust arch transparency and toggle the Gums view off. This will make it easier to see the points of occlusal contact, helping you determine if you need to move any teeth using 3D Controls: Individual Tooth Movement.
Tip 2: Include information about significant changes to the treatment setup in the Comments Panel; this helps the technician better understand the purpose and expectations of the requested edits.
Tip 3: Use the tooth movement parameters guide to plan predictable movement. Be aware of the following:
- Most cases will require some kind of adjustment to the overall arch form. These arch movements usually fall into four main categories:
- Distalization
- Mesialization
- Lingualization
- Expansion
- The overall movement of an arch is determined by the types of movements made by the individual teeth in that arch
- The overall amount of arch movement expected in each quadrant can give you a rough indication of how difficult a case may be
- Every patient is different, so as always, results may vary
- To learn more about case parameters visit the following article:
- Case Complexity and Selecting Treatment (Pricing) Options
Tip 4: You can use the hotkeys on your keyboard to move through the treatment setup timeline to evaluate tooth movements at each step:
-
- Arrow Left – Previous step
- Arrow Up – First step
- Arrow Right – Next step
- Arrow Down – Last step
- Space – Play/Pause timeline
Tip 5: You can use the hotkeys on your keyboard to move teeth using the Individual Tooth Movement tool and the Tooth Movement Chart.
For PC Users
- Use the Control, left arrow (←), or right arrow (→) keys to adjust the tooth movement.
- To change to a different type of movement, use the Control, up arrow (↑), or down arrow (↓) keys.
- To undo edits made in the movement chart use the Control or Z keys.
- To repeat edits made in the movement chart use the Control or Y keys.
For Mac Users
- Use the Control, Command, left arrow (←), and right arrow (→) keys to adjust the tooth movement.
- To change to a different type of movement, use the Control, Command, up arrow (↑), and down arrow(↓) keys.
- To undo edits made in the movement chart use the Control, Command, and Z keys.
- To repeat edits made in the movement chart use the Control, Command, and Y keys.
Tip 6: Overcorrection steps appear as underscored step numbers on the timeline. If you requested overcorrection in your original prescription, the steps will appear with underscores at the end of the timeline before the R and PV steps. When you use 3D Controls, it creates a DR step and removes the overcorrection steps.
If the clinician initially requested overcorrection, the next Treatment Setup the clinician receives will show the requested overcorrection along with the edits that were requested using the Dr. Edits feature.
Tip 7: The PV (previous version) step can be used to compare the technician's proposed final setup against the Dr. Edits made to the previous version of the Treatment Setup.
Tip 8: Save STL files for a case by selecting Control and S key.
- Approved cases - Any step is available to save STL file.
- Pending cases- Only first step, final step and Dr. Edits are available to save STL file.
