General Questions

Are bite ramps for everyone?

Bite ramps are not for everyone. The doctor needs to complete a thorough analysis of the case to decide if bite ramps should be used or not.

Should I fill the bite ramp areas with resin?
You should not fill the bite ramp areas with resin. They are designed to work without any resin, and you should advise your staff not to confuse them with engagers since they appear very similar in design.
What should I tell my patient regarding the bite ramps?

Advise your patient that bite ramps may make their bite feel different during treatment. Anterior ramps may contact the tongue and require a short adaptation period. Posterior ramps can temporarily open the bite, creating space that will close once the ramps are removed at the end of treatment. Any persistent discomfort should be reported to the clinician.

Can bite ramps aid with grinding in patients with a low mandibular angle?
Bite ramps are designed to help resist occlusal forces, and they might potentially help with grinding.  Additionally, considering that the patient will be changing aligners regularly, there should not be any significant issue with wear and tear of the surfaces.
What types of bite ramps does ClearCorrect offer?

ClearCorrect offers:

  • Anterior bite ramps placed lingually on upper anterior teeth.
  • Posterior bite ramps placed on the occlusal surface of posterior teeth.
How do I order bite ramps in my treatment setups?

There are 4 ways you can request bite ramps in your treatment setups:

  1. Ticking the box for Anterior or Posterior Bite Ramps in the Dynamic Prescription form in the Doctor Portal, when selecting Deep Bite or Crossbites (only available on the Full Arch Correction form).
  2. Through the Additional information section on the prescription form in the Doctor Portal.
  3. Adding the request in the Comments Panel in ClearPilot.
  4. Adding the bite ramps yourself in ClearPilot using the 3D controls.
What are the default ClearCorrect protocols for bite ramps?

ClearCorrect’s protocols for bite ramps are described in our Help Center article: Bite Ramps.

The Engager Template didn’t have the bite ramps in it, is that a mistake?
Different from engagers, bite ramps will not be included in the Engager Template because they are not intended to be filled with composite.
How are bite ramps visualized in ClearPilot?

Bite ramps will be shown in a semi-transparent blue color:

Anterior Bite Ramps

Posterior Bite Ramps

Can I modify bite ramps directly in ClearPilot?
Yes, 3D controls for bite ramps are available within ClearPilot.
Where can I place the different bite ramps?

Anterior bite ramps can be placed lingually on the upper 6 anterior teeth.
Posterior bite ramps can be placed on the occlusal surface of posterior teeth, either upper, lower or both arches.

Can I request bite ramps in a different configuration than the available default options?

You can make this request in the Additional Information section of the prescription form in the Doctor Portal, in the Comments Panel within ClearPilot, or directly by adjusting the treatment setup using 3D Controls.

Can I request to have the bite ramps start on any step of treatment?
By default, we plan bite ramps to start on Step #1 through the end of treatment. You can change the start step to any other odd numbered step and you can modify the number of steps you want them to last. Request changes in the Additional information section of the prescription form in the Doctor Portal or in the Comments Panel in ClearPilot.
Will there be an additional cost to add bite ramps?
No, bite ramps are included at the same cost of the treatment plan of your preference.
What do I do if an Aligner with bite ramps broke while being worn by the patient?

You should report to support@clearcorrect.com the issue or a complaint related to the broken Aligner.

Can I order a replacement Aligner if it broke while being worn by the patient?
You can request a replacement Aligner directly from Doctor Portal. Open the case details page, select Replacements from the Case Actions button, add the steps of the active phase that you want to replace, and submit your order.
Can I plan for bite ramps on retainers?
No, this is not currently supported.
Will Engagers be placed on the same tooth where there is a bite ramp?
We can place Engagers on the same tooth where there is a posterior bite ramp.  We won't be able to support all the requests to add an engager in the same tooth that has an anterior bite ramp, since such arrangement can make it difficult for the patient to remove the aligner and could results in deformation or damage to the Aligner.
Can I request bite ramps for a case that has already started?
Yes, you can request bite ramps for cases that are already ongoing. You’ll need to request a Revision to get a new treatment setup and new set of Aligners with bite ramps. (Additional fees may apply)
Are there any limitations on the placement of bite ramps?

Anterior bite ramps will be able to be placed only on the lingual surface of anterior teeth.
Posterior bite ramps will be able to be placed only on the occlusal surface of posterior teeth.

Are there any limitations on the number of bite ramps in a single Aligner?

We do not have any limitations on the number of bite ramps that can be requested in a single Aligner.

Anterior Bite Ramps

What depth of anterior bite ramps are available?

ClearCorrect anterior bite ramps are available in one depth: 3 mm.

Will the anterior bite ramp adjust in height as the bite is being opened?
The ClearCorrect technician will adjust the height of the anterior bite ramp every few steps.

Posterior Bite Ramps

How tall are posterior bite ramps?
The prominence of posterior bite ramps will differ based on the teeth where they are placed.
  • Second molars: 1.5 mm above the occlusal surface.
  • First molars and pre-molars: 2.0 mm above the occlusal surface.
Can I place posterior bite ramps on teeth other than the lower molars?
Yes, please make sure to specify the tooth and surface where you want the posterior bite ramp(s) to be placed in the Additional information section of the Doctor Portal, in the Comments Panel in ClearPilot, or by using 3D controls to modify the arrangement provided in the treatment setup. Please note that we may not be able to accommodate your request if we are not able to manufacture it.
